opening ceremony of the first international climate change conference in partnership with Team 54 Pr

Converging under one relevant cause, the City of Catbalogan hosted the first-ever international climate change conference in partnership with Team 54 Project and Climate Reality Project. Dubbed as “Kasugbong Kalibutan”, which literally translates to ‘global partner’, the conference theme emphasizes the significant role that everyone plays towards addressing the impacts of climate change.

Government workers and officials, students and from the academe as well non-government organizations and socio-civic groups attended the opening program last December 07, 2017 at M Grand Royale Resort, which was further highlighted with the esteemed speakers from Climate Reality Project in India and the Philippines as well as Earth warrior herself, Miss Earth 2017 - Ms. Karen Ibasco. Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan, being the host city, passionately shared her commitment towards environmental protection not just because of Catbalogan’s vulnerability to the impacts but because of deep concern for the place that we live in.

Being a member herself of the Compact of Mayors, which is a global coalition of city leaders committed to address climate change and prepare for future impacts, Catbalogan City has been at the forefront in these advocacies with various memberships such as UCLG ASPAC and ICLEI among others — committing globally and acting locally. The second and last day of the conference is expected to bring in more nationally-acclaimed speakers as well as regional and local champions on climate change resiliency and environmental advocacy
